Firqat Saltanah is a community Arabic orchestra drawing members from Maryland, Washington DC, and Northern Virginia. The group includes native musicians and singers from of Egypt, Syria, Lebanon and Morocco, as well as second generation musicians seeking to re-connect with their cultural roots, and Western musicians with no family ties to the Middle East, but all are united by their common love of Arabic music.
Newly formed in 2011, the group is enthusiastically working on repertoire including turath (heritage music), tarab classics, as well as folk and popular music of the Arab world. The program is both entertaining and educational, and will appeal to both the Arab American community, and the general public.
